HOLIDAYS!!!

I've decided to enter a local short film competition. Wish my luck.
Its going to take alot of strength and endurance to put something
together. I have until Feburary the 13th next you to submit!
I have a musician friend that has volunteered a piece of his that I
can animate to. Ill be using Flash and Photoshop. I have a story
outlined, and I'm ready to jump in. My ideas are kept as simple
as possible!! I don't want to make this too difficult compared to
all the crappy time I have available. I wish I started on it early this year.
This'll be fun. :P

BYE BYE for now!

Major Project.

I don't have my visual journal with me this moment,

So I've decided to use a post to record my thoughts on
short story telling. The major project will be put together
in under a year. Others have been gather ideas, so have I.
But I think I need to look into the basics of a short first.
I need to really think about it.

I once saw a student project, a short animated film.
I particuliarly like it. And it is the only film I have been
thinking about since I considered the major project.

It involves a girl lying out on the grass on a bright day. Watching the clouds go by.
Then a sudden extreme. She jumps into the cloudy sky and uses her sun hat to clear the clouds off.
Shes in her on dramatic zone doing this, and its seems fun and kind of dreamy. But then a conflict arises.
A rain cloud and its loud thunder comes her way. There is a long shot of her floating in the sky looking at the large cloud. Then she dives for it. Lost inside the rain cloud, its dark and she gives in all shes got. Slashing her hat around. She defeats the cloud seeing a way out. And then you hear her mother call her from the house. She is back lying around on the grass, then runs to the back door. Taking her hat off before entering the house a pool of water splashes down upon her and she is soaked.

"A good short story is almost always about a moment of profound realization. Or a hint of that. A quiet bomb."
- Joseph O'Connor, 1997

I want my short story to have this.
But I'm vague on ideas. I might try a different tactic, and search my best for different things. Look at topics and art, settings, items that don't come naturally to mind. I want to do my project next year with interest, I have to gather a story I am passionate about. This will be displaying what this course has done for me after all. I want it to be good. Like school has been good to me.

Little Voyage: a stop-motion

My very own little stop-mo. Was a lot of hard work...

This is my design.
I'm definitely considering in outlining me/her its just too dark right?? D:

She is still in a work of progress. I wanted the character to fit in with the environment. That was a lot of problem solving..............

Little Gold Mine: posemaniacs

I found something last weekend.
It's a great anatomy resource site.
I'm not sure if students have already pointed it out..
But I am posting it up anyway!
It's for people who don't have the greater access to life drawing etc.
But I see it a great place to practice examples just on the go,or sketching.
There are heaps and heaps of great references.

The site is:  http://www.posemaniacs.com/

Treasure Hunt

                            I'm Rich:
With all this material!

With all honesty until now I have been kind of nervous to look about the library. I usually like going to the my local library, and also my past school library. But, with all new experiences or places, I always have to conjur some courage. Without this orientation, I don't think I would have looked inside that library despite how much I like them. I have been this way ever since I was a little kid.

So I am very grateful... that I got my foot in the door.

And just to add, the Librarians seem good to talk to. Aside from the glorious amount of material, I like how there are so many help desks, and also the fact you can drink in there is a win too.

My Completed Answers >
1. Shuan Tan has also been the author of The bird King and The arrival(I like this, It's about migration. Simple to how I feel coming to new places... It's a complete picture book, no writing/narritive.). Both these books can be found at the library. Other work's of Shuan Tan is The Red Tree.

2. I looked about the Journals, I could only see a magazine about animation ... called 'Animation Magazine'. Simple straight forward name. But I'm exceptionally happy how the Library holds around 3 years of Imagine FX Magazines. Lovee..

3. I found out the Librarian's help in Library's today...
For information detailing on copyright it's fine to lurk about web feat, but its also accessable on level 4 of the block.

4. Disney's 2 of the 9 old men collaborated on a great big book called the Illusion of Life. Those two men were Frank Thomas, and Ollie Johnston. The book is located on the 3rd level.

5. For the 5th Question, I found the book The Animator's Survival Kit (Richard Williams) of level 3. I'm most certainly
going visit these books. We'll be the best of friends.

6. Frank went to Paris!! and the dim of this treasure
hunt is something he brought back from paris. From
the Gobelin Animation school. I guess this makes our
Teacher Frank a Pirate!... I found one book. By Gobelins.
But I am unsure.
It's called 'Paris: Chambre de Commerce et d'industrie'...
Chambre? Commerce?? I'm all so so very confused. Completely.
Is this really the book?

7. Miyazaki, Miyazaki, Miyazaki. It's fun to say. But all the more
fun to watch. Yes his animated movies are found at the sbit library.
Films such as Howls moving Castle, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away,
Kiki's Delivery Service and The Miyazaki Temple are all avaliable to loan.

8. The Orientation was of good help, but I answered most of the
questions given before the orientation started...

And lastely. Watching 'The Lost Thing'.
I would have to say I have a Favourite creature design.
The Cage Bird.

CALLING 1st Years! and others if interested..

Kawaii Kawaii Desu Desu Nyahh! :::
BE INSPIRED.?

AITE. Guys I just love remembered this song/video animation. It's an ultra ear bleeding candy rave song for those who are against the kawaii...so watch it if you know you can handle it...

BUT I've pointed this out because of the project classwork we're doing at the moment! The bouncing character and what not.

THIS video can be of help... I think it should, there is a lot of bouncing. and its interesting to watch they curl into a ball.

PS. The song is called Smoooch. The characters are vocaloid and utau. vocaloid or utau did not sing the song.

Bye for now! Not forever!
Charmie,

First Assignment:

Ergonomics Poster-----

Efforts on my first assignment centered around Ergonomics. The idea I get behind this was from Frank mainly! In no meaning of complaint> He described the 'zone' now and then the first two weeks. But I think the thing that made me rush for this idea was due to the lack of cg artist ergonomics. I tried finding pictures for it, but fumbled pointlessly over barely related pages of images. I suppose that's what drove me to draw it. So then it clicked, over the 4 other ideas I had I scratched those for this although I knew it was risky.

Frank was fine with it!!
But I felt prepared and accepting if I had to draw another poster. - u- lucky it was okay to some degree.

Concept : Lair

Robotic Ant Lair

Felt like doing something
conceptually when Ian
complimented me, and
mentioned the painting
techniques I used where
similar to that of a concept
artist.
So I thought why not give
it a shot??

< That's the end result
It was funn.

Extreme - The Harryhausen

I beleive this man had opened incredible insight to many just watching this scene. This is claimed to be his most masterful.
The edgyiness in the skeletons really creeps me out~
This man is an icon now in animation history due to his extreme performance and skill to create such stop motion scenes or special effects, models of all sorts.

Ray's last film was Clash of the Titans, 1981.
He turns 91 this year.

Coming 2012

I'm going to comprehend what the principles of this thing called 'Animation'.

<= something like this

... I'm guessing

The Thirteen Basic Principles of Animation is a set of principles of animation introduced by the Disney animators Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas in their 1981 book The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation.
The idea is that, with these principles someone can gain super mega ultra lightening cool animation ability.

THESE. Are the principles.
  • Spacing
  • Squashing and Stretching
  • Anticipation
  • Staging
  • Straight ahead action and pose to pose
  • Follow through and overlapping action
  • Slow in and slow out
  • Arc
  • Secondary action
  • Timing
  • Exaggeration
  • Solid drawing
  • Appeal

The aim with these principles is that a character can bring appeal... can be Realistic, and full of life.

Wish me luck!

Who are these 2 old guys?

An interesting surprise with Bird's history in animation. He held great indearment for his elders/teachers, and kept contact with them. He brought great inspiration from them. And in a form of dedication, appretiation and fun he included the two Frank and Ollie as characters shown within the two films 'The Iron Giant' and 'The Incredibles'.
The Incredibles

2d and 3d.

Ollie and Frank do a cameo in The Incredibles.

Frank Thomas (Lady and the Tramp) from Victor Ens on Vimeo.
The pencil test is attributed to Frank Thomas.
He did animate this sequence in the film 'Lady and the Tramp'. Both Frank and Ollie animated Lady in the film. However Ollie animated most of Lady. Frank animated the spaghetti meatball scene.

Reminisces

Today we watched a short documentary with the 2nd years.
It detailed the history of Walt Disney’s ‘Lady and the Tramp’.

I learnt that Disney took a few decades to create and produce
the story.
Mainly because of the charming appeal Lady had.
They concluded there was nothing more they could make of her
story.
Originally what inspired Lady and the Tramp was Walt’s own
happenings in life.
For instance the way he presented a gift, a puppy in a hat
box, for his wife.
It was decided this would too play a scene in Lady and the
Tramp.

Aside from Disney’s efforts in the movie, two others
contributed ideas to the story.
They are: Joe Grant, and Ward Green.

Joe Grant was someone Walt would always talk to about ideas.
He was often a great help to Walt Disney. Ward Green on the
other hand was a writer for the ‘Cosmopolitan’. A literature
magazine. It was reading this magazine, Ward’s story ‘Happy
Dan the Cynical Dog’ that the character ‘Tramp’ was made
bringing Lady back to life.

The year, finally where it was made, was during 1955.

I really reallllyyy enjoyed Lady in the Tramp as a youngen,
It was a part of the collection of Disney vhs we had.
I’m really happy that I got to see this.
Or else I wouldn’t have had any idea...

Mission Complete!

Made a gmail account. Along with it, my first blog.

I'm going to try not to drag out all long fancy explanation why I like animation...
I simply happen to like it... inside and out.

Originally what got me to try animation wasn't out of the inspirations of others.
But just the desire to tell a story. I started making animated .gifs around grade 11 as a stress reliever... or more like a new procrastination...
But that doesn't mean I haven't always found drawing enjoyable~

I did not consider then to take it seriously and study it.
But slowly it crept up on me.
So today is my first day... I'm more excited then scared. Eager. Where will I go with this?

Here are a few animation pieces that have widened my eyes.

5 centimeters per second>

Paprika >

I also love an anime K-ON!(!), produced by the Kyoto Animation group
the animation it really good! I definitely like the movement of the characters, they really strike me. and the story is gorgeous.

If you also like their style of animation I also suggest you watch this other video, the anime's name is Bakemonogatagi!

This is a music video sung and produced by Akikane called 'Rolling Girl'
I believe this is another great influence to me. This is one of the best music video's I have laid my eyes on. It's very powerful.
It reflects on a girl who is always trying her best, and is never giving up. "one more turn" "one more turn"
'rolling' can be defined as giving it another round. Having another shot.
I like this video very much. Originally it was designed for Hatsune Miku, but I prefer this version better. Her voice bring out a hint of desperation.

These are some other animation pieces that I have seen recently.
